Background

The Russo-Ukrainian War began in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea, a region that was internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. Around the same time, fighting broke out in eastern Ukraine between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists in the Donbas region. Although the war had already been going on for years, it gained worldwide attention in February 2022 when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
